About Massive Burn Studios
In June 2005, two young artists and entrepeneurs, Miles Davis and Merissa Corbet came together with the vision of bringing to life the "lowbrow" art scene that resides in Atlanta, GA. For the past few years, through experimentation along with blood, sweat and tears, the fledgling business owners remain inspired and enthusiastic about the scene, the artists, and the movement, as "lowbrow" emerges as an accepted form of fine art.

“A painting is life and a painting is death . . . the picture is our legacy left by tomorrow’s dead for tomorrow’s living.” -Ivan Albright
Award-winning local artist Miles Davis certainly takes that sentiment to heart. Born a month premature in 1979, he was rushed to a hospital in the next state when his lungs collapsed. Though he was too young to remember this incident, he forever bares scars on his chest as a reminder of his lease on life.
As a “military brat,” Miles has had the opportunity to live in a variety of locations including Germany, Hawaii, California, and New Jersey. Being immersed in a diverse set of cultures as a child, Miles’s adolescent experiences helped to greatly influence his artistic vision. “While I was growing up, I was consistently entertained by the ‘pop’ culture of the time – everything from videogames, cartoons, and MTV to fine art textbooks and gallery shows,” Miles explains. “My generation has experienced the Internet Era from a young age; as I’ve developed as an artist, the need to render artwork in a style relevant to my time has become more important.”
Product of a divorced family, Miles was raised within two theological homes: Catholic and Methodist, which serve as a strong basis for his spiritual work. “In terms of subject matter, my interests tend to focus around the duality of the human condition – our moral compass versus our animalistic impulses. By reacting honestly to my own instincts and emotions, I am able to connect with a wider audience. Hopefully, the viewer will walk away contemplating his own struggles and realizing he is not alone.”
After graduating with a BFA in Fine Art from Auburn University in 2003, Miles relocated to Peachtree City, GA. Here he met and was inspired by Merissa Corbet, a gifted Graphic Designer and Web Designer. She quickly became a fan of Miles’s work and, being a talented artist herself, serves as creative support for much of his artwork.
Miles continues to be inspired and enlightened by life, from everyday experiences to once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. His artwork serves as a representation of himself and that which he enjoys and endures throughout life. He is grateful and happy to share his life and his work with you.
